Media are playing an important role in shaping public attitudes towards corruption, as well as for revealing cases of corruption in various spheres. Coalition 2000 constituted awards for best materials against corruption, in view of stimulating the active anticorruption position of journalists and the media as a whole.
The awards for the year 2003 will be announced in February 2004 during a ceremony, organized by Coalition 2000. A special certificate and a cash reward will be given to the winners.
Journalists from all media in the country are invited to send in copies of one published article or a tape and a transcript of a broadcast treating the issue of corruption. The articles have to be from the last year - 2003. A three-member jury nominated by the Coalition 2000 Secretariat will review all articles and assess both the quality of the journalist’s work and the public response and the impact in countering corruption.
The award ceremony for presenting the journalism awards of Coalition 2000 for 2002 took place on February 26, 2003, at the American Center in Sofia in the presence of representatives of the United States Embassy, MPs, governmental institutions, non-government organizations and mass media.
