Contributed by: Nikolay Nedyalkov | | | |  | Eastern Europeans - world’s worst software pirates EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Eastern Europeans are the world's worst software pirates, with an average 71% of software used in companies never being paid for, according to a Business Software Alliance's (BSA) annual survey on global software piracy.
The study published today, 3 June, shows that standards in Eastern Europe have improved over the last eight years, but that still no country in the region is above the rates in Western Europe.
The worst countries in the East are Russia and Ukraine with piracy rates of 89%. The study recommends the creation of a software clearing house to which administrations can "donate" software. This facility, which would concentrate on applications specific for the needs of the public sector, could encourage the replication of good practice in eGovernment services.
